Nigina Amonkulova is one of the brightest and most talented stars of the Tajik stage. Thanks to the beautiful voice, graceful performance and, most importantly, the high-quality content of the songs in the national style for a short time, I was able not only to gain national love, but also to find my own, unique place on the modern stage. Sudden popularity did not have a negative impact on her, as it happens, she is modest, as before, friendly, and simple in communication.

About how it was possible, despite the prohibitions, to become a singer, it is true that she left the stage under pressure, and what new songs the fans are waiting for, Nigina Amonkulova told in an exclusive interview to the Internet portal

— Nigina, to perform on stage, to become a singer was a childhood dream?

«It was, of course, in my heart, but I probably did not realize this. Dad has a very good voice, my grandfather sang folk songs. At me the genre not the classical and not too variety. It is more from the heart. Rather, I’m still a singer of folk songs. But what I do, I really like — it’s my job, and I’m happy that I have it in life. I live it and live.

— Did your parents immediately notice your artistry and zeal for singing? Supported?

— I will not say that I was in the spotlight. I remember that I always sang at home — when I worked, cleaned, cooked, kept singing along. Mom and Dad scolded me for this, they told me not to get distracted. I regret that my parents did not send me to music school. I have no musical education, and I also do not know how to play musical instruments.

— What instrument would you like to play?

— On the piano. This is a tool where you can play and compose everything. It would be good to sing and accompany yourself on the piano.

«But now it’s not too late to learn this, the main thing is to find time …»

— That’s just how time is not enough, because now a lot of things. And it seems to me, this all the same it is necessary to be engaged from the childhood that the basis was strong.

— Do you remember your first performance before the big public?

— I sang my first song at the graduation ball at school. It was a song of his own composition «Alvido, maktab!» («Farewell, School»). We met with classmates, girlfriends, and decided to sing a song about school years. The musicians listened to us, they liked my voice, and they left only me. My friends then a little bit offended.

And on the graduation day, when I sang this song, all the graduates and teachers were crying. After the performance, everyone approached, hugged and thanked me for the performance. When I entered the medical college, everyone already knew that I was singing and I had a good voice — they began to offer me to perform at different competitions. But then I was already scolded by my parents for singing at the graduation.

— So parents did not like that you sang and the audience greeted you so warmly?

«My father scolded me, that I, a grown-up girl, are engaged in some non-serious things. Mom was also unhappy.

«Did any of the households stand up for your protection?»

— Yes, grandmother. It seems to me that she is the person who supported me and put parents before the fact that I will sing, that’s all. This was her decision, but in spite of her word no one would go.

I was supposed to perform at the city competition with the song «Mu-abbat-bakhti hondon» («Love is a smiling happiness») at the Andalabe-2004 (Song Contest .- Ed.). My parents did not know about this, but when they found out, they banned it. And I could not fail the team that hoped for me so much. Well, I sang and I was given 10 points.

The next round of «Andaleba» was a republican one and was held in Kulyab (200 km south-east of Dushanbe — Ed.). I sang the same song. I was given 9 points, and inside me all the hopes at once collapsed, the whole mood spoiled.

Two years later, when I graduated from the medical college, I was again invited to the Republican contest «Andaleb» in Dushanbe. I was offered three songs to choose from — «Intizor?» («Waiting»), «Honai mo it» adar? Amur dur nest «(» Our house is not too far away «) and another song that is popular among the people «The gift of the labi both» («On the bank of the river»), but in fact it is called «Ran? Ida nigoram omad» («My offended lover came»). I immediately chose this song — it was closer to me. His consent was given only three days before his departure to Dushanbe — again thanks to my beloved grandmother, who hardly persuaded him

And so I came to Koh and Farhang (House of Culture), we rehearsed and flew to Dushanbe. On the day of the performance, I had some problem, I do not remember which one, but, in my opinion, something was wrong with the suit. I was very worried about this and even cried before the performance. But when I stepped onto the stage, it was as if everything was boiling in my soul. And when I started to sing, I felt the sympathy and support of the audience and gave all 100%. The jury gave me 10 points. Penjikent (Little Homeland of the singer — Ed.), Then won the Grand Prix.

Returned, then home. Everything is normal, everything has died down. And then suddenly on the central television, «Shabakai aval» and «Safina», probably every half hour show my performance. Daddy got angry again — they say that they show you so often, you need to call them, tell them not to show.

— How did you feel when you saw on television?

— I remember, I was very shy, scolded myself for my facial expressions, I thought, why I did so, why I smiled.

— And what kind of person are you in life?

«I’m a self-contained person.» I’m not as active as on stage. When I go on stage, I directly reincarnate, I put all my strength, all emotions, into the fulfillment of my song. And so I am a family, quiet person. Not with all I can be friends, communicate.

— After Andaleb you were invited to work in Dushanbe?

— Yes. I studied at the Tursansade Institute of Arts. True, I have a production director (laughs). In 2007, I entered the Conservatory, but I also worked as a soloist in the «Daryo» ensemble, and there was very little time, studies and work could not combine. When I went to study, they scolded me here, worked — skipped classes and received from teachers. Then she decided to go to correspondence education and continued to work.

— And the conditions when you were invited were in Dushanbe?

— Yes, I was provided with housing. Now I live here.

— How do you combine home, work, family in such a tight tour schedule?

— It’s very difficult, but I still manage. The family understands me, supports me. My family knows that the scene is my calling.

— And who helps you to care for your child?

— My mom helps me in this.

— Is there anyone else in the family who sings besides you?

— Yes, my younger brother, Khusraw Amonkulov. He is a singer and mostly performs in Khujand. He started to study music before me, he graduated from music school.

— And how many of you in the family?

— Five. Older than me is my brother, and three younger brothers after me. I’m the only daughter.

— In your speeches, you mostly wear national clothes from satin. Who makes sketches, comes up with a design?

— I personally do these things. I have no designer, no director, no producer. I myself make sketches, give the tailor, and she sews.

— In the last clips you have a more vivid make-up, European clothes. Do not want to be remembered only in the atlas?

— No, why, on the contrary. I want to remember this, because the atlas is so diverse, beautiful and any girl makes it even more feminine, gentle. But there are times when I pick out the outfits for the song.

— Do you mainly shoot your videos in Tajikistan or abroad?

— I do not yet have the opportunity to shoot clips abroad. All filmed here in Dushanbe. Of course, I want to shoot them abroad, more professionally, qualitatively, but so far no financial opportunities. We will be content with what we have.

— And what has your name and success brought you in material terms?

— I have everything, thank God. There is a car, an apartment. My wealth is my songs, clips. That’s all I did myself.

— Since the performance in the competition «Andaleb» and until today, you probably got a whole army of fans. Do not torture?

— No, my parents were very protective, and there was never such a problem that they attacked me. But, as we say, «? Avchi? O beard budand» (matchmakers were enough).

— You are quite a famous singer in the country, and there are a lot of rumors about you. One of them, for example, is that you were pressured, and so you left the stage. Is it so?

— No, it’s certainly rumors. Thank God, no. I as worked and worked, and I continue to work.

— What are you working on now? What are you planning to please fans in the near future?

— I, as already said, do everything myself and therefore can not release every month on the song. Sometimes, of course, it happens that in one month I will release 2-3 songs, but sometimes it can last up to three months. Now I have a couple of new songs on the way. Now I am working on their completion.

— Do you have plans to speak in Moscow, Russia?

— Oh sure. This year, many proposals were from Moscow about the concerts. I also had to go to Navruz and speak there, but, since we have a state institution, there are a lot of speeches and events that we need to speak about here. But I really hope that this year I will finally go and speak in Moscow.

— Have you ever played in Russia before?

— No, I do not know the Russian public yet.

— In what countries did you perform? Where did you like more?

— We often travel with the days of Tajik culture to different countries. Was in China, Europe traveled, in the Arab countries, India visited. Almost everywhere we are met very well, I will even say hurray — it’s all the same national Tajik songs.

— When you are given free time, where do you like to rest?

— I would like to visit Italy. I liked Paris very much. Although they were passing through there, I will never forget this city — it is really fabulous. In Germany, life seemed to me a kind of gray, but Paris is boiling with life, although I did not have time to really look at anything.

— Do you also buy clothes on these trips?

— European — yes. But I very rarely wear European clothes on stage, and I sew national clothes here.

— How do you like to spend your free time?

— If there is a time, which is very rare, I try to spend it with the child, because he always misses me.

— Do you cook at home? What is your specialty dish that you spoil your home?

— Yes, I’m cooking. My child loves spaghetti very much. They work very well for me.

— And from the national dishes, what do you like to cook?

— I do not know how to cook from national ones, but, frankly, I like to eat very tasty (laughs). Of course, I understand that this is harmful to the figure, but when I see that I have already gone too far, I get on a diet, but not on a hard diet. I just eat fruits, sour-milk products, vegetables. And as for food, I’m not choosy at all. I’m always interested in trying new food, different national dishes. When we were in China on tour, no one ate traditional Chinese food, but I tried everything.

— Do you often get recognized on the streets in Dushanbe, on tour?

— Yes, it happens often. At first I somehow complexed, and now I’m used to it. They come for an autograph, ask to be photographed together. It’s me now on the car, and before I went by public transport.

— Do you feel like a star?

— No, I never considered myself a star. The star is Alla Pugacheva, Philip Kirkorov. I have folk love, but from this I do not feel myself a star. «Ma? Bubi hal?» budan «(to be a favorite of the people) is good. I always say that my sponsor is my people, because I often go to events, weddings. My people support me, and I am grateful to them for that. I will never leave Tajikistan and will not leave for any other country.

— And there were such proposals, and if so, from what countries?

— Yes they were. Mostly the Iranian, Afghan diasporas that live in America, Canada, but I do not imagine myself without Tajikistan.

«What are you trying to achieve now?» Have you achieved everything you wanted?

— I do not know. It seems to me that I have not done something important yet, I have not achieved much yet. I feel that I have not sung my main song yet, it is still ahead. I still have to grow and learn, gain experience, professionalism. Recently I found out that I already have 80 songs: I came to a friend and saw her CD, in which I collected all the songs in the collection — both those that I singed and a duet.

— Who would you like to sing a duet with?

— I would like to sing a duet with Djurabek Murodov, with young, new talents, thus supporting them. With the group «Shams» I would like to sing something folk …

— Incendiary?

— No, not incendiary. I do not want my songs to be incendiary, so that they immediately become hits. The main thing is that the song is sung from the heart.

— Your songs are often lyrical, sad. Is this related to your personal life?

— No, I just try to sing a song in such a way as to convey the depth of the verse, as it was felt by the author, and not to connect with my life, problems. I transmit it as I feel it. I’m a performer and try to perform well what I sing. I like to collaborate with such composers as Tobish Hiloli, Davron Rahmatzoda, who compose music for my songs. Sometimes they offer me music with verses, sometimes I choose poetry for music myself.

— Do you have many friends?

— I am friendly with everyone, I communicate, but I do not have many friends. I chose for myself such friends (there are not many of them) who, it seems to me, will always be with me, and I will always be friends with them, because they are worthy of it. My friends are all 10-15 years older than me. I’m more interested in them — they have more life experience.

— And who helps you in the house, in the household? Is there an assistant?

«The au pair is there, but I am engaged in all important events myself, because if everything is not under my control, it’s troublesome in my soul.»

— Do you often receive guests at home?

— Yes, often, but I like to visit more (laughs).

— Are there plans to give birth to more children?

— Of course! I generally would like a football team, and ideally at least three.

— Would you like your son to follow in your footsteps?

— When my son Azzamchon was 3 years old, he sang all the time, but now he stopped. I do not see this desire for singing anymore, he switched to technique. Although I limit it in using any gadgets.

— Is your solo concert expected in the near future?

— We wanted to hold it this year, but there were problems with the hall. I do not know yet when, but plans are to come up with a new program.

— Which of the classics would you like to sing?

— I have not sung anybody from the classics, but I would like to sing Bedil, Jomi. I want to move to another level, to sing serious things. I think I went a little too far with lyrical, love songs. I want to sing more seriously, thematically, about social problems. I want to perform something strong.

— One of the hot topics is now the topic of migration. Maybe you’ll sing about her?

— On this subject, I just have the song «Yori moo? O? Ir» («Migrant Friend»), and I very much hope that it will somehow affect the migration issue, as poetry and music are very good. We plan to make a video for the song and release it in pairs.

The performer strongly influences the minds of people, instills more respect and love for the homeland, people. I think some of the problems mainly arose from the fact that humanity is losing its main property — humanity, life values, not material, but spiritual. All run more for material than for spiritual values.

I really hope that soon I will solve all the technical issues, come to Moscow with a concert and speak before our compatriots. I know it’s very cold, it’s hard to work, and therefore I wish them first of all health, good luck in business, well-being in the family.
